Weekly Update 28th April 2023
Read our newsletter to find out what has been happening in school this week and upcoming events ...
Dear Parents and Carers,
Today, while the children have not been in school, the teachers have all been taking part in the annual joint RE training at St Mary’s College. This is a valuable opportunity for our school to work with our six local Catholic schools and reflect and develop our own practice.
Yesterday, our Y1 children visited Holly Lodge in Richmond Park as part of their study of ‘Living things and their habitats’. They hunted for invertebrates under logs and learnt about food chains and how animals adapt to their environment with the help of the staff team at the centre. The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit and learnt so much - we are very lucky to have such a great resource on our doorstep!
Looking ahead …
Coronation Celebrations
On Friday 5th May, we will be celebrating in school the coronation of King Charles. To mark this special event, we are going to create a school time capsule which will capture this moment in time for future generations. We will be asking the children in each class to create and suggest items to place into the time capsule. The time capsule will be filled and then buried to be discovered at some point in the future! Perhaps you could discuss with your child at home what they would like to put in a time capsule.
After school, at 3:15pm, on Friday 5th May we will be having a Coronation Tea Party. All parents, carers and children are invited to come together to buy a cream tea on the junior playground. Our Y6 parents will be organising the refreshments and our Y6 pupils will be helping to serve. All proceeds will go towards the Y6 end of year activities.
The PTA will also be creating a commemorative coronation school tea towel featuring all the children’s pictures which will be available to buy later this term. Details will be sent home soon.
Piano Concert
On Thursday 4th May at 4:00pm there will be a piano concert in the school hall. This is an opportunity for all children who are learning to play the piano to showcase their talent in front of an audience of parents, carers and siblings. All children, whether they are beginners or more accomplished pianists are welcome to take part. If your child wishes to take part, please ask them to speak with Mrs FitzGerald or please send an email to school FAO Mrs FitzGerald.
Sports highlights!
Our Y3 Girls football team played in a 6-a-side festival this week. St Elizabeth’s played 3 schools; the team defended well, attacked with good passing skills and came home unbeaten! If your child would like to play football, there are many great local clubs with girls teams. Please contact Mr Sagar for more information.
Also this week, having played well in both the rugby and football leagues, our teams played in the knockout stages. Our football team had a fantastic game against Marshgate and the score was 7 – nil, the next round is the quarter finals.
Our Rugby team played against Trafalgar School. It was a very close game. Well done all the players!

This year our May Fair is taking place on Sunday 21st May from 12pm - 4pm. Please save the date! It promises to be a lot of fun and there will be many activities for all the family. More details will follow.
