Weekly Update 12th May 2023
Read our newsletter to find out what has been happening in school this week and upcoming events ...
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a busy week in school for our Y6 pupils who have been taking their National Curriculum Tests (SATS) this week. The children all rose to the challenge admirably and we are very proud of them!
This week our Y2 children visited the London Wetland Centre in Barnes as part of their study of animals and habitats. The children took part in a workshop on ‘Wetlands habitats and their wildlife’ and made real life habitats for a stag beetle, otter and a frog. The children especially enjoyed seeing an otter swimming!
Upcoming Dates
May Fair
We are now on the countdown to the May Fair which is taking place on Sunday 21st May. This is the largest fundraiser of the year and it promises to be a wonderful day. We hope you will be able to join us and thank you in advance to the PTA for the preparations.
Sponsored Cycle
Good luck to our team of cyclists who are cycling to Swansea on Friday 19th May to raise money for our school. This is a fantastic endeavour and we are so thankful to everyone taking part. You can sponsor the cyclists by following this link:
https://justgiving.com/campaign/cycletoswansea
In this time of significant rising costs in school, every penny counts and will be used to maintain and enhance the provision we can give our pupils.
We will be waving the cyclists off at 9:00 am on Friday 19th May and will welcome them back during the May Fair on Sunday. All are welcome to join us sending them on their way!
Non-Uniform Day on Friday 19th May
On Friday 19th May, all children are invited to come into school wearing their own clothes and bring in a donation of a bottle for the bottle tombola at the May Fair. Please put the bottles on the table tennis tables by the main school entrance or in the boxes by the playhouse in the KS1 playground on arrival that day.
‘Walk to School Week’ – a message from our Junior Travel Ambassadors
Next week it is ‘Walk to School Week’. We would like to encourage everyone to travel to school in a sustainable way: walking, scooting, cycling, car share, bus, train or park and stride. Every day we will be counting the non-car journeys and giving out stickers to the children. The winning class will receive the Golden Boot Award! By doing this we hope to make our streets clearer, our air cleaner and our school fitter and happier!

School Clubs and PE Kit
We would like to remind parents that children in KS2 who attend sports clubs before school should bring in their school uniform to change into after the club finishes. The exception to this is when children also have a scheduled PE lesson on the same day or if they attend both a morning and an afternoon sports club.

A request from Nursery
Miss Delia and the nursery team kindly request that children from school and their siblings do not play with equipment in the nursery playground at the end of the school day. We are fortunate to be able to use the nursery playground for access at pick up time but children from school are not permitted to use the equipment including the slide and house, especially as the nursery team are setting up the next day’s activities at this point. Please could we also remind parents and carers to give children after school snacks off site as we are seeing an increase in litter in the nursery playground. Thank you for your co-operation.
PTA Cake Sale and Fundraising
Thank you to parents, carers and children for supporting the recent PTA class fundraisers. The PTA have shared that the Y4 Sale raised £317.28, the Y6 Easter Sale raised £393.35 and last week’s Coronation Tea raised £574.63 for Y6 end of year activities. Thank you to everyone who supports these sales.
