Dear Parents and Carers,
KS1 Sports Day
The KS1 Sports Day was a real highlight this week! Children in all classes took part in a circuit of running, jumping and throwing activities, helped and cheered on by their Y6 sports leaders. This was followed by the whole class relay races where the children ran a lap of the astro-pitch before handing on the baton. Every single child performed brilliantly, competing in their house teams: St Josephine Bakhita, St Maximilian Kolbe, St John Henry Newman and St Teresa of Calcutta. The winning house will be announced following the KS2 Sports Day on Tuesday 18th July. Thank you to Mr Sagar and Mrs Knowles for organising the event.
Y6 Choices workshop
As part of their preparation for secondary school, our Y6 pupils took part in a workshop on ‘Choices’ today led by the Wizard Theatre. The aim of this workshop is to teach the children how to make good choices through drama. The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and Mia and Edoardo commented: “We learned about peer pressure and peer preference and how to hold onto our own views. It was all done in a fun way, working in groups and acting out scenes.”
Y5 Visit to Barnes Children’s Literature Festival
On Monday, our Y5 pupils went to the Barnes Literature Festival for an audience with Frank Cottrell-Boyce. Frank Cottrell-Boyce is well-known to the children as the author of one of their Y5 class texts ’Cosmic’. Alex and Zoe enjoyed getting a preview of his new book and laughing at the funny way that he read parts of his books aloud.
New Reception Parents’ Meeting and Induction Sessions
This week, it was lovely to meet the parents of the children who will be starting in Reception in September and we look forward to welcoming the children to their induction session on Tuesday 27th June.
Sports News from Mr Sagar ..
We celebrated National Schools Sports Week with a fantastic KS1 Sports Day and a Sports assembly.
On Thursday, the Sports Committee led an assembly where children from all year groups shared with us their sporting achievements. The children spoke confidently about their sports and what they had achieved. It is wonderful to see the wide range of sports that our children participate in and enjoy.
Mass for the Feast Day of Saints Peter and Paul – Holy Day of Obligation
On Thursday 29th June at 2pm we will be celebrating Mass for the Feast Day of Saints Peter and Paul, two of the most important saints of the early church. We look forward to welcoming Fr George from St Winefride’s in Kew to say Mass for us. Y5 children will be leading the Mass and parents of children in all classes are invited to attend.
Attendance
As we approach our last month of the school year, please can we remind you of the importance of good attendance and punctuality. Every day in school includes important learning for children and we continue teaching the curriculum right up to the end of term. Lessons start straight after the register at 9am and therefore it is essential that children do not miss the beginning of lessons as this puts them at a disadvantage.
Thank you for all your efforts in ensuring your child does not miss school and arrives on time. Our current whole school attendance average is 96%.
