Weekly Update 18th October 2024

Read our newsletter to find out what has been happening in school this week and upcoming events ...

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week in school

Thank you for attending parents’ meetings this week.  We hope that you found these meetings a useful  opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and hear about how your child has settled into their new class.

Harvest Food Donations and Mass

Thank you very much for responding to our call for Harvest donations this week.  Your generosity helped to create a fantastic display of food for our Harvest Mass and we will now be sending a large amount of food to Richmond Foodbank.  Our Infant Choir are also delivering some treats to Greville House this afternoon as they sing for the residents there.

Thank you to Fr Peter for celebrating our Harvest Mass with us yesterday and for the gift of sunflower and poppy seeds for each class.  Thank you too, to Y5 for leading the prayers and readings.

Good News!

Richmond Library has let us know that St Elizabeth’s was the top school for children participating in the Summer Reading Challenge! Out of 45 primary schools in Richmond, our school had the highest number of children – 68 - taking part in the challenge.  Well done to everyone who took part and keep up the reading!

Black History Month

As part of Black History Month, our Y3, Y5 and Y6 children took part in a live schools’ event with the author Atinuke this week.  Atinuke was talking to children in schools across the UK about her new book ‘Brilliant Black British History’.  More information about Black History Month can be found at https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/curations/black-history-month

PTA Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The PTA held their AGM this morning where they shared how much they had raised for the school in last year’s events and news of future fundraising events.

The PTA play a vital role in helping the school to buy resources and equipment which are not possible to fund from the school budget.  They also help to create so many fun memories for the children in the events they run.  Huge thanks go to the PTA committee and to the Class Reps for taking on this role.  Thank you too, to Liza and Susannah, who will be stepping down this term as PTA Chairs, after a very successful two years.  We will thank them in person for all their hard work at the Bingo Night next week.

We are currently looking for a new PTA chair or co-chairs to take the baton from Liza and Susannah.  Please do consider if you might be able to take on this rewarding position.  The role has been stream-lined to be less time-consuming and would suit someone with good organisational skills and bundles of enthusiasm!
