Weekly Update 15th November 2024

Read our newsletter to find out what has been happening in school this week and upcoming events ...

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week in school

Odd Socks Day

We celebrated Anti-Bullying Week in school this week by wearing odd socks.  The brightly coloured and mismatching socks were a visual reminder that we are all unique and should feel proud of our differences.  The theme of Anti-Bullying Week this year was ‘Choose Respect’ and in assembly on Tuesday Mrs Compton explored how children should show respect to one another in words and actions.  Mrs Compton also reminded children that they can speak to any trusted adult in school if they have any worries.  Children can also access the Online Worry Box, which is available on the class pages of the school website.

Positive Noticing Day

Continuing Anti-Bullying Week, Wednesday was ‘Positive Noticing Day’.  Staff and children spotted children carrying out kind acts and gave each other luggage labels to show that their actions had been noticed.  Positive Noticing is a behaviour strategy that you may be interested in trying at home.  For more information visit https://www.positivenoticingday.com/homeadults

Movie Night

The Movie Night was a great success yesterday.  Thank you to Y6 parents for organising and also to the Y6 children for being fantastic volunteer helpers on the night.

Sports Update from Mr Sagar and Mrs Knowles

It has been a busy week of sport at St Elizabeth's! Last Friday after school, two teams of Y5 and Y6 children took part in Richmond Rugby Club's tag tournament, playing six games against other local primary schools. The teams scored some great tries and enjoyed the opportunity to represent the school with their friends. They were able to stay on to watch Richmond men's 1st XV beat Birmingham Moseley. Many thanks to Richmond Rugby, who organise our after-school tag rugby club, for inviting our school to take part!

On Monday afternoon, our Y6 tag rugby team played a fixture against St Stephen's. The team worked really hard against a well organised opposition team and showed some excellent defending skills and good perseverance.

On Wednesday, it was the turn of the Y5 and Y6 girls’ football team to take part in the borough tournament. The girls played seven games throughout the day, with some good passing and tackling skills on show, and enjoyed having a day out in the sunshine! Audrey in Y5 said, "It was great fun. I can't wait to do it again!" Well done, girls!

Next week in school

Mufti Day for Christmas Hampers – Friday 22nd November

On Friday 22nd November the children are invited to wear their own clothes to school in return for bringing in an item of food for the Hamper Tombola at the Christmas Morning.   This could be any food item that would be appealing in a hamper, such as biscuits, wine, mince pies, etc.

Month of November - ‘Friends in Heaven’

During the month of November the Church encourages us to pray for those who have died.  In school we invite children to bring in a photograph of a loved one who has died and this is placed on our special November table until the end of the month. The children are asked to say a few words about their loved one in assembly and then we all pray the Eternal Rest.  We always find this to be a very positive way to show the children that we cherish the memories of our loved ones and we continue to pray for them in Heaven.

Christmas Jumper Donations needed

Do you have an old Christmas jumper at home that your child has grown out of?  Perhaps you have an adult Christmas jumper that would suit a new owner?

The PTA are looking for donations of pre-loved Christmas jumpers to sell at the Christmas Morning on November 29th.  Please bring your jumpers into the school office and come along to the Christmas Morning to find a new one!  Thank you very much.
