Computing
At St Elizabeth's we embrace digital technology and we recognise the excitement and benefits that digital technology can bring to all aspects of school life and learning.
Our Computing Curriculum equips our pupils with the necessary skills to thrive as responsible digital citizens. We want our children to be confident, competent and enthusiastic in using a range of technologies. We believe that children learn best when they can see a purpose for their learning. In our Computing lessons, children are given the opportunity to solve problems and develop computational thinking within real life contexts that are both fun and relevant.
Computing is taught as a discrete subject in each year group using a range of technologies in the classroom. We have three class sets of Google Chromebooks which allow children to access individual devices for computing learning. We also use Chromebooks and iPads in other curriculum areas to enhance learning and develop digital literacy. Our pupils experience a wide range of programmes and apps and by the end of KS2 are proficient in using amongst others: Scratch and Python for coding, html for creating webpages and film and editing programmes.
Our Computing Curriculum is based on developing the six elements of computing:
- Digital Literacy;
- Computers and Hardware;
- Cross-curricular Application;
- Computational Thinking;
- Coding;
- Online Safety.
Online safety is an integral part of the curriculum for each year group and children learn age appropriate skills that build on previous learning each year.
For children with a particular interest in Computing there are after school computing clubs for KS1 and KS2.
