This week in school

Holy Week Mass

We have continued our Lenten journey in school this week and the children have been reflecting on the events of Holy Week. Holy Week is the most important week in the Church’s year, beginning on Palm Sunday and ending with the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday. In our Mass on Tuesday, Canon John Weatherill explained how Jesus’ resurrection gives joy and hope to us all. We also heard in the gospel how, at the Last Supper, Jesus gave us a new commandment to ‘Love one another as I have loved you’. This is especially important to us as it is our school motto and is at the centre of our school community. Thank you to Canon John and to the Y5 children for leading the Mass and also to the nursery children who joined us, processing in with palms to represent Palm Sunday.

Passion Play

The Y4 children performed the Passion Play yesterday. By doing this they are keeping alive the medieval tradition of dramatising the events of Holy Week and Jesus’s resurrection. They took on their roles with such maturity and reverence, it was very moving to watch. We would like to thank the children and all the staff for helping us to prepare for Easter so beautifully.

The collection after the Passion Play raised £250 for ‘Small Steps’ and CAFOD. Thank you to all.

Orchestra Visit to Gamelan Workshop

The Orchestra had an amazing time at the gamelan workshop at the Royal College of Music on Monday. Gamelan is a series of percussion instruments that originated from Indonesia. Daniel remarked, “I especially enjoyed the Saron (a xylophone-like instrument) and the giant gong!” Michael commented, “I think it was very interesting learning about different instruments from other places in the world.”

Reading Cup

Congratulations to Y4 and Miss McCrossan, who are winners of the Reading Cup for this half term. Well done!

After the Easter Holiday

When the children return on Monday 15th April they can wear their summer uniform if the weather is warm enough, or they can continue to wear their winter uniform. Please see the school website for details of the school uniform.

No extra-curricular clubs in the week of 15th April

There will be no extra-curricular clubs in the week of 15th April. NSSport and Breakfast Club will be running each day as usual. Children should wear their school uniform unless it is their PE day.

Easter Traditions

Our children come from many different cultural backgrounds and we would like to share how Easter is celebrated in our school families. We are encouraging children to share their Easter traditions, celebrations and traditions with the rest of the school in assemblies. Your child can bring in photographs, artefacts or upload photographs onto Google Classroom to show in the first week of term.

Attendance this week

Whole school attendance this week is 93.27%. Congratulations to Y4 for having the highest attendance this week with 98.10%, followed by Y1 with 95.57% attendance.
