Weekly Update 8th November 2024

Read our newsletter to find out what has been happening in school this week and upcoming events ...

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you had an enjoyable half-term break.  It has been lovely to see the children return to school looking smart in their winter uniforms. We would like to remind you that all children from Y1 to Y6 should now be wearing a button-up collared shirt and school tie.  As the weather turns colder next week, children will need to wear jumpers or cardigans and coats to school – all clearly named please.  If you have any questions regarding school uniform, please do contact the school office who will be happy to help.

This week in school

Y6 World War 2 Day

On Tuesday, Y6 took part in WW2 Day. Dressed as evacuee children, they started the day with a workshop at Richmond Museum where they learnt about rationing, the ‘make do and mend’ campaign and how the war affected the residents and town of Richmond. They also had a chance to make and sew a wonderful patchwork quilt.  In the afternoon children took part in a dance workshop where they learnt popular swing dances from the 30's and 40's culminating in a spectacular final performance.  The children had a wonderful day and looked fantastic in their evacuee costumes.  Naomi said, “I enjoyed experiencing how the evacuees might have felt and what they did.”  Freddie said, “I enjoyed learning about how they would take apart old clothes to make new ones.”

Thank you to the parent helpers, Richmond Museum and Lee from Boundless Dance for an unforgettable day!

Y2 Visit to Richmond Museum

On Wednesday Y2 visited Richmond Museum to learn about the First World War.  They learned about Richmond residents who were involved in the war and handled artefacts from the time. They then visited Richmond War Memorial to locate the names of the soldiers they had been finding out about.

Y6 Assembly

Y6 led the school in a special assembly about Remembrance today.  They explained why we wear poppies and some of the children shared the most amazing stories of their relatives’ courage in the war across a number of countries.  The children asked us to continue to pray for peace in the world and for all those who are affected by war at the moment.

Next Week in school

Movie Night – Thursday 14th November

Your child is invited to come along to a Movie Night next Thursday from 6pm to 8pm.  The children will be watching ‘Inside Out 2’ in the school hall and they will be offered popcorn and juice.  Please see the email sent earlier this week for details of how to book your child’s place.

Children can wear their own clothes to the Movie Night and can bring a soft toy or pillow if they would like to get cosy!

Month of November - ‘Friends in Heaven’

During the month of November the Church encourages us to pray for those who have died.  In school we invite children to bring in a photograph of a loved one who has died and this is placed on our special November table until the end of the month. The children are asked to say a few words about their loved one in assembly and then we all pray the Eternal Rest.  We always find this to be a very positive way to show the children that we cherish the memories of our loved ones and we continue to pray for them in Heaven.

Odd Socks Day for Anti-Bullying Week

Next week is National Anti-Bullying Week and this year the focus is on ‘Showing Respect’.

On Tuesday 12th November children are encouraged to wear odd socks to school.  Children can wear brightly coloured socks or tights, different socks on each foot or just wear their usual school socks – whatever they like!  The purpose is to celebrate the fact that we are all unique and we should respect our differences.

Christmas Jumper Donations

Do you have an old Christmas jumper at home that your child has grown out of?  Perhaps you have an adult Christmas jumper that would suit a new owner?

The PTA are looking for donations of pre-loved Christmas jumpers to sell at the Christmas Morning on November 29th.  Please bring your jumpers into the school office before the end of the month and come along to the Christmas Morning to find a new one!  Thank you very much.
