Geography
Our Geography curriculum inspires pupils' curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Our curriculum provides children with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
Through our Geography curriculum children learn about both their local area and localities throughout the world. They explore how people manage, adapt and survive in different environments. They consider the impact that people have on their environments both in a positive and negative way. They also learn how their own personal actions can have an impact on the environment in which they and others live.
Geography lessons focus on developing key geographical knowledge and skills. Children have real life experiences and learn about geography in an active and creative way. Links to History, Science and other subject areas are also explored.
Topics covered in Geography are chosen to cover a range of countries and continents to enhance pupils’ depth and breadth of understanding of both their home locality and that of the wider world.
Children are given opportunities to learn and apply geographical knowledge and skills outside the classroom through fieldwork and educational visits, which include local area studies, visits to Kew Gardens and Richmond Park, and residential visits to Sayers Croft in the Surrey Hills, and the Isle of Wight. On these visits, children learn to research, gather and analyse information and present it in different ways.
